Thoughts on 5.10 down below...

  • I loved the modern take on the "crossroads" at the beginning. Made me (not) miss Los Angeles for a moment.
  • Hurray for Sam pointing out that they've learned the lesson about being separated, and hurray for Dean for going along with it. That said, it was a seriously dumbass idea for Sam to come along, and Dean shouldn't have agreed. (Of course, then when Lucifer got a hold of Dean, he could have held him hostage to get Sam, and... *swats away plot bunny*)
  • I really wish my favorite TV show would allow the kickass female characters to live for more than a few episodes. I did appreciate that Ellen and Jo not only went down fighting, but the boys didn't try to protect them from the inevitable or cast any doubt on their ability to do it. But still. :(
  • Was Sam too freaked out to recognize that Lucifer was pulling words out of his own head, or what? Some of that dialogue was pointedly familiar.
  • On a morbid note, I like that Bobby's still in the wheelchair but definitely managing to be useful, which he was so afraid he couldn't still be. Points for realism. Loved him talking to Dean over the radio; that was some damn fine acting on both their parts.
  • Also, about time we got on with the actual Apocalypse, Horsemen and all.
  • Overall, I was left...unsatisfied. I mean, obviously they weren't actually going to kill Lucifer, because this is only the halfway point of the season. Obviously Sam wasn't going to say yes (yet) (though I swear the thought crossed his mind when they were trapped in the hardware store), because this is only the halfway point of the season. (And now we know where the season finale is going to be set, LOL.) It was like the whole episode was a drawn-out setup for the Winchesters to lose more of their vanishingly-small extended family. And yeah, I admit my heartstrings were seriously tugged when Dean kissed Jo, and yes, I cried when it was just Ellen and Jo, together at the end. But this is why I wasn't looking forward to this ep--emotional whumping for its own sake.
  • And now there's two months to wait for whatever comes next. Argh.

Yeah, I was so upset about losing both Jo and Ellen that I'm just now commenting on it. So sad and needless...they could have been so useful to the rest of the story. Seems like a sad waste. Hope you don't mind me commenting, I just feel better knowing I'm not the only one who was not happy about that.
