SPN countdown, day 1 of 10

Because it sounds like fun even if I know there's no way I'll actually make a post every day for the next ten days. (Optimism, I haz it.)

The first SPN episode I ever saw was "Skin." I got into SPN through the side door by reading fanfic from an author I really liked from another fandom. *waves at jennk528* This was during the summer after S3, and I read through the Wikipedia descriptions of the seasons and the episodes and thought this sounded worth watching (the characters had already captivated me from the fic I'd read). I love love love love love the evil twin trope, so I thought I'd start with "Skin."

I will admit, the gore of the first few minutes put me off a little, and I dislike body horror enough that I didn't really enjoy shirtless!shifter!Dean. BUT. Not only were both boys tied up, which is quite possibly my favorite thing ever, and there was looming (see above), there were some really good character moments:

• Sam knowing there was something off about shifter!Dean and pulling his gun without hesitation, trusting his own smarts.


• Sam only wanting to know where his brother was, seemingly not caring that he was tied up and at this monster's mercy.


• Dean being so pissed about shifter!Dean driving the Impala, and being annoyed that the sketch artist hadn't done a very good job: his deflection skills were already in full display.


• Sam fighting his own way out of his second capture, the two of them showing off some really hot fighting moves in the process.

So there was no doubt that I was going to keep watching. I went on a conference trip to Barcelona shortly thereafter, and I watched most of S1 either on the plane (saving "Phantom Traveler" for later, thankyouverymuch) or in my hotel when I was feeling too exhausted at the thought of going out and braving a foreign city. This was interspersed with the S3 eps that were being aired on the CW's website...but more on that later.

Yay, Season 1 - jumping up and down and squeeing! I discovered it on Netflix, and the binge began. Season 8 was already going...and I caught up before the end with an obsession that has only gotten worse.

Fav episodes are hard to even identify, there are so many, but "Faith," "Home," "Something Wicked," and "Devil's Trap" are certainly standouts.

(My first ep was Asylum - came in during the last half hour on a repeat, and yes, I was hooked within minutes. Best random channel-flipping moment ever!)
